Doorbell Cover

Filed under: Neat Stuff — Ruzter @ 2:27 am

In amongst single parenting (K was in Calgary) with sick kids, and trying to wrap up things with the house fixing (the house is listed already!) I managed to wipe out this cover for the doorbell in the hallway. Several things that were missing with the house when we bought it (like baseboards in the kids rooms) have been installed by Kirsten and I in the past week!

Aprox 8x5x2 inches, oak. Assembled it then ran the edges through my table saw to get the joints perfectly flush. Worked quite well.

Random acts of eBay

Filed under: Neat Stuff — Ruzter @ 1:02 am

I also recently discovered that you can easily buy something on eBay and have it shipped to someone else.

An amazing thought occurred to me today. I have bought a fair number of things from China and Hong Kong with free shipping, usually things where quality is not an issue for what I need it for. It is fun. I also like making people laugh and if they can feel like someone thought of them, even better. I also recently discovered that you can easily buy something on eBay and have it shipped to someone else.

I did a search on eBay today for “gift” and there was 10 or so pages of  things like these for less than $2.00 including shipping and handling:

So with contact list of mailing addresses and an eBay account, the possibilities are endless!

The Bike du Solei (Cargo Bike)

Filed under: Projects — Ruzter @ 2:54 am

It’s not what you can buy, it’s what you can build

I have amalgamated the pictures related to the construction of my cargo bike in one blog post for those interested in its construction.  Since picture are worth 1000 words, I won’t put too much text, but include as many pics as I have. The name evolved as we originally called it the circus bike after the kid’s car seat were added, then it became the Bike du Solei
from the famous Cirque du Solei.

The platforms for the boys’ car seats are the ends of futon couch. The last of the construction pics shows a super easy and fast way to attach the car seat with a ratchet tie down. The bike is amazingly stable. I took a guess and made the rear steering arm a bit longer that the front one attached to the forks. It is perfect and makes the bike easy to maneuver in the garage as the front wheel can be turned nearly 90 degrees.

The main difference in design from similar “front cargo bikes” is that instead of extending the head tube for the steering, I simply made a brace from angle iron and then extended a tube attached to the original front fork, down through the frame that rides on a UHMW bushing (high density plastic similar to nylon).

Here are all the construction pics… They maybe a tad out of order, so scroll through to see what you want. Click any pic to enlarge it.

We took the “circus bike” out on it’s maiden voyage today!

The steering linkage complete

The platforms attached

Seats for the boys secured!
